Boning
Boning is thin, flexible strips sewn into a bodice to give it structure and keep it from slipping or folding. It is common in strapless and fitted formal dresses, where it helps the bodice hold its shape without constant adjusting. Check in the fitting room that the boning does not dig in when you sit or raise your arms. A tailor can adjust or add boning for a more secure fit.
