Lining
A lining is an inner layer of fabric that improves comfort, hides seams and helps the outer fabric hang well. It stops sheer fabrics such as chiffon from showing through, reduces cling and can feel smoother against the skin. When trying on a dress, check whether the lining is scratchy or restricts movement. Linings also affect care, so if the label says dry clean only, take it seriously. See also: Chiffon, Dry clean only, Bodice, and the guide Dress Fabrics and Care: What to Know Before You Buy.
