Empire waist
An empire waist is a waistline that sits high, just beneath the bust, with the skirt flowing loosely from that point. Many people find it comfortable because nothing is fitted at the natural waist, and it works for maxi lengths, graduation dresses and formal gowns. The seam placement is the key fit point: check that it lands beneath the bust rather than on it.
